Introducing Backpage

Posted by: Danny in: ● June 15, 2010

Backpage.com is one of the fastest growing classified websites.

About 2.3 million people are visiting the site every month. If we name some of the advantages over other classfieids websites such as Craigslist:

  1. Backpage lets you post in multiple cities,
  2. Backpage lets you automatically re-post your ad to the top of the listings,
  3. For 45 cents, Backpage lets you have your ad appear at the top,
  4. Backpage lets you promote all your products and services at once by displaying links to your other postings,
  5. In some cities like Seattle, Backpage lets you publish your ad in offline newspapers and magazines.

If you are seeking a place to professionaly promote your products and services, this is it, and it’s free!

Now, let’s see how you can post your GoGoPin ads to Backpage.

Step 1:

Create and export your ad.

Step 2:

Copy the HTML code generated.

Step 3:

Visit Backpage.com and click “Post an ad” at the top of the main page.

Step 4:

Click “Post local ads”. You might want to create a Backpage account at this point if you’d like to make the posting process simpler in the future – if you do not have an account, your ad won’t go live until you click the link provided in the email you’ll receive upon submitting your ad.

(To make this tutorial simpler, we will not cover posting an ad in multiple cities.)

Step 5:

Choose a metro area where you want your ad to show up.

Step 6 & 7:

Choose a section and category for your ad (e.g. automotive, real estate, and furniture for sale)

Step 8:

Choose a location that best fits your ad.

Step 9:

Now this is the most important part. First, fill out the title, selling price, and location. In the Description field, paste the HTML code you copied from Step 2. Enter your email address. Highlighted are only required fields.

Step 10:

Click “Continue” at the bottom of the page. There are few advanced options which will let your ad stand out from the crowd and make your life easier through automation. This is absoutely optional. As long as you stick with the basic option, it’s completely free.

Step 11:

At this point, you will be able to preview your ad. What you see in this preview page should be the same as what you see in GoGoPin Ad Designer. Pass the CAPTCHA challenge. If you don’t know what CAPTCHA is, please read this descriptoin at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA.

Step 12 & 13:

If you’re following this tutorial without creating a Backpage account, this is the step you must go through (for those who have created and log in to the account, your ad is already live at this point). As soon as you pass the CAPTCHA challenge in Step 11, you will receive a confirmation email. Click the link provided in the email, then your ad will go live immediately.

You’re done! Get ready to meet thousands of new visitors today!

We Report Craigslist’s Unreasonable Censorship!

Posted by: Danny in: ● April 6, 2010

Have you ever experienced your ad on Craigslist.org got flagged and deleted for no reasons? We strongly believe that ads with inappropriate content must be flagged and deleted. However, what is happening now in Craigslist is that a lot of valid ads are being deleted for no reasonable reasons even though they fully abide by Craigslist’s Terms of Use http://www.craigslist.org/about/terms.of.use#conduct).

Is Freedom of Expression Still a Dream?

We hope Craigslist publically release the standards which are being used to review the ads on Craigslist. We also hope Craigslist explicitly tell advertisers the reason why their ads are deleted.

Few weeks ago, Google shut down its search engine in China because of China’s unreasonable censorship. If what Craigslist is doing is different from what China is doing, Craigslist should explain the difference clearly.

Please sign the petition here and help us make Craigslist a transparent marketplace.

Sincerely,
The GoGoPin Team
